Landstar Reality

Why Some Drivers Love Landstar and Others Hate It

You can usually tell pretty quickly which drivers are going to love Landstar and which ones are going to struggle.

The funny part is that it often has very little to do with driving skill. Some excellent drivers hate Landstar. Some average drivers thrive there. The difference is usually mindset.

Landstar rewards people who want control. It exposes people who need structure.

Some drivers need structure

Some drivers genuinely want somebody else handling planning, load selection, scheduling, and freight strategy. There is nothing wrong with that.

But those drivers often get frustrated quickly at Landstar because the system expects the operator to think independently.

A lot of drivers say they want freedom. What they really want is better treatment. Those are not the same thing.

Freedom and predictability are different

Freedom means uncertainty. Freedom means responsibility. Freedom means the good decisions helping you and the bad decisions hurting you.

Some guys enjoy that pressure. Others realize they preferred predictability more than they thought.

That is why you will hear completely opposite opinions about Landstar. One guy says it changed his life. Another guy says it was the worst move he ever made. Both can be telling the truth.

The real question

The important question is not whether Landstar is good or bad. The real question is whether the setup fits how you operate.

The same system that creates opportunity for one driver can create stress for another.
